The Lake Ōhau horse trek experience was incredible. Would totally recommend. Angie, John and the crew were amazing hosts. The accommodation and food were top notch and the hot tub with a stunning view provided the soak needed after a days ride. The horses are very special and have a beautiful nature; calm and gentle. Angie and John provide a unique horseriding option. There’s numerous reasons I would recommend them, including: 1. Their horses have been bred, raised and trained by Angie and John. Before any horse is ridden by guests, the horses do a season as a pack horse on their multi day horse trekking pack rides. The entire herd is very well behaved and respectful of each other and, over 4 days, I did not see any horse bully another. They are forward going but listen to the riders and are very manageable. 2. Angie and John have decades of experience and it shows. Their equipment is of a very high standard and well maintained, and their expertise is apparent. 3. They offer a variety of rides, including the luxurious lake Ōhau ride and Birchwood station. The accommodation and the food were excellent. However, perhaps more interestingly, they do multi day pack rides across the beautiful New Zealand landscape. If you’ve seen any of Lord of the rings movies you’ll know what I mean! 4. While in New Zealand I rode with two other operators and their operations were simply not of an appropriate standard. My friend and I could not help but notice the contrast between these poorly behaved aggressive horses who kept biting and kicking each other versus the cohesive well behaved herd at New Zealand horse trekking.

Angie and John are the quintessential hosts and guides : warm , helpful , knowledgeable , friendly , fun and professional . The epitome of service excellence ! And then there is their amazing herd : safe , unfazed , strong and responsive . Thank you for the most amazing few days , I'll be back .

I had a wonderful time - fabulous safe horses - amazing scenery- very comfortable beds and great food. I don’t know how you organised such good weather but that was the icing on the cake. John and Ange are wonderful hosts.
